Privacy Policy for Gedit

Last updated: 24th Feb 2023

We consider it a priority to protect student, family, and teacher privacy in our software, data storage, management systems, web-based services, and internal policies. We are fully compliant with the Family Education Rights and Policy Act (FERPA), Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA). We’ll never disclose student personal information to any unauthorized parties and take security measures to safeguard student personal information in our data systems. We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of student data.

Data collection, use, and sharing:

Gedit collects, uses, and shares data in accordance with COPPA, FERPA, and SOPIPA. We only collect student data that is necessary to provide our educational services, and we do not share student data with third parties without obtaining verifiable consent or under applicable law. Gedit does not market, sell, or rent any student’s personal information. Gedit does not engage in, inform, influence, or enable advertising to students.

We do collect some non-personally identifiable information (either ourselves or using third party service providers) using website logins and cookies. We use this information for the purpose of providing and improving Gedit, to monitor and analyze use of Gedit, for Gedit's technical administration, to increase Gedit's functionality and user-friendliness, and to verify that users have the authorization needed for Gedit to process their requests. Please review your web browser “Help” file to learn the proper way to modify your cookie settings if you wish to do that. Limiting some cookies may hinder our ability to provide the Service to you.

Data ownership:

When schools work with Gedit, schools own all data and control all data use - not Gedit.  Gedit does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 18, unless we are performing services for a client and we believe we have appropriate permission to do so. We take appropriate security measure to protect student data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.

Access and correction:

Parents, students, and education institutions have the right to access, review, and request changes to student data in accordance with COPPA, FERPA, and SOPIPA. To exercise these rights, please contact us at contact@gedit.co.
